PORTLAND, Ore. - Newly acquired Portland Timbers forward Jose Adolfo Valencia will be sidelined for 6-to-12 months following knee surgery.
Valencia, son of former Colombia national team star Adolfo Valencia, had damaged cartilage in his left knee repaired Monday by team director of medicine Dr. Jonathan E. Greenleaf.
The Timbers said Friday it was uncertain when Valencia was hurt and said they amended the original terms of the loan agreement reached in December with Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe. Under the reworked deal, he will not count as a young designated player.
He will rehabilitate in Portland while on the Timbers' disabled list.
