UN chief warns of risk of 'war' in Iran nuclear row

UN chief Ban Ki-moon on Thursday urged Iran to comply with UN resolutions demanding it curb its nuclear activities, warning that heightened international rhetoric over the issue risked degenerating into "war."

He said Tehran should build confidence in its nuclear programme by "fully complying with the relevant (UN) Security Council resolutions and thoroughly cooperating with the IAEA."

Otherwise, he warned, "a war of words can quickly spiral into a war of violence."

Ban spoke after Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday slammed the "overt dictatorship" of the UN Security Council in a speech opening a Tehran summit that included Ban himself n in the audience.

"The UN Security Council has an irrational, unjust and utterly undemocratic structure, and this is an overt dictatorship," Khamenei told the 120-member Non-Aligned Movement summit.

Iran is in a showdown with the Security Council over its disputed nuclear programme, which has resulted in four sets of Security Council resolutions imposing sanctions on it for pursuing uranium enrichment.

Khamenei charged that "the control room of the world (the Security Council) is under the control of the dictatorship of some Western countries" -- implying permanent council members the United States, France and Britain.

State television showed Ban looking nonplussed as Khamenei delivered his speech.

The NAM, which represents much of the developing world, has long championed a reform of the United Nations to take power away from the UN Security Council and bolster the say of the UN General Assembly, where its members are better represented.

Khamenei's criticism of the UN's top table followed a meeting he had with Ban on Wednesday in which the UN leader bluntly told Iran to take "concrete" steps to ease the showdown over the nuclear issue.

One small step: Was Neil Armstrong misquoted?

The millions worldwide who watched the Apollo moon landing in 1969 heard Commander Neil Armstrong say, rather ungrammatically,?"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." But a 2006 analysis of the audio indicates that the astronaut did not omit the definite article.

By Life's Little Mysteries Staff,?Life's Little Mysteries / August 27, 2012

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Armstrong is pictured here, shortly after collecting a sample of lunar dust and rocks. At his feet is the handle for the sample collection tool.

Upon taking a "small step" onto the surface of the moon in 1969, Neil Armstrong uttered what would become one of history's most famous one-liners. But strangely, what he actually said is far from clear.

' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // --> When Apollo 11 touched down on the Lunar surface the whole world stopped. Relive the moment when humanity took its giant leap forward.

Listeners back on Earth heard, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." But?Armstrong, who died Saturday?(Aug. 25) at the age of 82, maintained afterwards that he actually said something slightly different: "That's one small step for?a?man..."

"It's just that people just didn't hear [the 'a']," Armstrong told the press after the Apollo 11 mission.

That little indefinite article makes a big difference, semantically speaking. Without it, "man" abstractly represents all of humanity, just like "mankind." Thus, the quote is essentially, ''That's one small step for mankind, one giant leap for mankind."?[Listen to 'One Small Step' Quote]

Despite his initial adamance that he got the grammar right by including the indefinite article, Armstrong acknowledged at a 30-year anniversary event in 1999 that he couldn't hear himself utter the "a" in the audio recording of his moonwalk transmission, according to the?Associated Press.

But then, in 2006, computer programmer Peter Shann Ford might have?vindicated Armstrong.

Ford downloaded the audio recording of the moon man's words from a NASA website and analyzed the statement with software that allows disabled people to communicate via computers using their nerve impulses.

In a graphical representation of sound waves of the famous sentence, Ford said he found evidence that the missing "a" had been spoken after all: It was a 35-millisecond-long bump of sound between "for" and "man" that would have been too brief for human ears to hear.

"I have reviewed the data and Peter Ford's analysis of it, and I find the technology interesting and useful," Armstrong said in a statement. ''I also find his conclusion persuasive. Persuasive is the appropriate word."

And so was "a," whether spoken or not.

Bomb team sent to Dublin's Israel embassy in false alarm

DUBLIN (Reuters) - An army bomb-disposal team was called out to investigate a suspicious device found at the Israeli embassy in Dublin in a false alarm on Tuesday, police said.

Irish police and defense forces said the eight-storey building, which is mostly empty apart from the embassy, was partly evacuated while the bomb-disposal team investigated the device for around an hour.

A police officer at the scene told Reuters that it was a false alarm after the team left the building.

Israel's Foreign Ministry said work in the embassy had returned to normal.

"A package attracted the attention of the staff and it was inspected but turned out that it was nothing out of the ordinary," a spokeswoman in Jerusalem said.

Tapes found in AP reporter's Cold War show trial

(AP Photo/Heinrich Sanden/Albert Riethausen)

(AP) ? The characters had been carefully chosen, the testimony rehearsed in advance, the verdict a foregone conclusion.

In the city of writer Franz Kafka, the trial of AP Prague correspondent William N. Oatis had all the elements of Kafkaesque absurdity. And at the beginning of the Cold War, even the date of the ruling seemed cooked up for show: July 4.

While the 1951 proceedings may have been all farce, the sentence for the American journalist was real: 10 years in a communist prison on trumped-up espionage charges.

The trial named the "O'' case by Czechoslovak authorities gave Oatis first-hand experience of what it was like to be considered an enemy of the newly established Soviet-led empire.

Now, the discovery of two audio tapes in the Czech capital offers unique new insight into the trial. No other audio record from the three-day trial has been found.

The tapes record 29 minutes of fragments from the first two days of the trial that include Oatis' statements, but not the testimony of three Czech AP colleagues who were sentenced with him. Experts say it is not clear why the trial was recorded and preserved in such a way.

"Do you feel guilty?" a judge asked through an interpreter at one point.

"Yes," Oatis immediately replied in English.

"That means that you committed espionage on the territory of the Czechoslovak republic?"

"Yes, I did."

Oatis did not hesitate to plead guilty, even though historians have established that he did nothing more than his reporting job since arriving in Prague in June 1950.

Facing the machinery of the secret police known as the StB, he had no chance to escape an unfair verdict. He was not alone. But of some 240,000 unlawfully jailed, Oatis was the only Western reporter.

Alena Simankova, an archivist at the National Archive in Prague who specializes in the Cold War, said authorities were making sure from the start that any trial followed the carefully planned course established at the pre-trial meetings ? in which every detail, including the sentence, was meticulously worked out.

At the meetings, the representatives of the state court, state prosecution, Communist Party and secret police "worked on 'casting' ? that is, they really used the drama vocabulary," Simankova said. "The judges and prosecutors were especially selected very carefully."

Simankova discovered the tapes "by accident" in the sprawling complex of the archive when she was going through files that arrived from the Justice Ministry about three years ago.

Among those supposed to contain only documents belonging to Deputy Interior Minister Karel Klos, a driving force behind major show trials in the 1950s, she found a paper parcel with two green cardboard boxes. Inside: the tapes.

"It was absolutely unexpected," Simankova said.

By the time the communist persecution of perceived regime enemies peaked in the early 1950s, it was the prosecutor, not the judge, who was fully in charge of the show trials, Simankova said.

Underlining the importance of the "O'' dossier, notorious prosecutor Josef Urvalek ? who came to symbolize the unlawful trials of the post-1948 communist takeover of Czechoslovakia ? was chosen to lead the case against Oatis.

The prosecutor's master choreography reached its climax when Oatis spoke in front of a crowd of some 120 spectators who received tickets for the trial as a reward from Prague's Communist Party branch.

"I'm sorry that I went in for espionage in this country," Oatis is heard saying in the audio tape. "I did it only because I listened to the wrong kind of orders from abroad and came under the influence of the wrong kind of people here in Czechoslovakia. I hurt myself, I hurt my friends, I harmed the republic and helped its enemies. I harmed the cause of peace and helped the cause of war. I repeat that I'm sorry for all of this."

Audio archivist Richard Mahel said the record was of a great value because "in a significant way it complements our knowledge of this trial, which is still far from complete."

But above all, "it shows the political system that was here in its monstrosity," Mahel said.

Slovak historian Slavomir Michalek, the author of "The Oatis Case," said the journalist's arrest came at a time when the number of Western reporters in Prague was in sharp decline and the communists "wanted to use the moment to show that they wouldn't allow anyone to inform the rest of the world about what was going on here."

"AP was interesting for them because it was an extremely important global agency whose reports had practically an immediate impact around the world," said Michalek, who heads the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Michalek said a failure to recruit Oatis to become a communist spy influenced the decision to punish him.

After Oatis was arrested on April 23, 1951, secret police put him in isolation and deprived him of sleep and food. Historians agree that this psychological torture coerced his confession.

"Sooner or later, they broke everyone," Michalek said.

After such treatment, he said, anyone "answered questions in a completely mechanical way as if he was a robot."

Oatis himself wrote about his experiences in several articles.

"On the first day I admitted that I had done unofficial reporting, which I had; within three days I confessed that this was espionage, which ? by any Western standard ? it was not; and within seven days I confessed that I had spied for the U.S. government ? which was a lie," Oatis wrote.

A U.S. diplomatic offensive and trade and travel embargoes that badly hit the regime led the new Czechoslovak President Antonin Zapotocky to pardon Oatis in May 1953.

Oatis returned to the United States the same month and was assigned to AP's United Nations staff where he worked until his retirement in 1984. His Czech AP colleagues, Tomas Svoboda, Pavel Woydinek and Petr Munz were sentenced to 20, 18 and 16 years respectively. They were all released in the late 1950s.

But relations between the two countries suffered for many decades to come.

Oatis, who died in 1997, was fully cleared only after dissident playwright Vaclav Havel led the peaceful Velvet Revolution that toppled the communist dictatorship in 1989.

During the 1960s, Czechoslovak judicial reviewers exonerated Oatis, but this finding was overturned in 1968 after the Soviet Union-led invasion of Warsaw Pact troops ousted Alexander Dubcek's reformist government. In 1990, as the Soviet empire tottered, he was quietly cleared again.

Direct Cool Refrigerator, Refrigerators - IdeaMarketers.com

When it comes to the functionality of a refrigerator, direct cool types compete directly with frost free fridges. As far as price is concerned, direct cool refrigerators are somewhat cheaper and consume less energy than the frost free variants.

Direct cool fridges work in such a way it cools the air inside the chambers quite instantly. The most common example of these refrigerators is the ones seen in groceries, more particularly those that store ice cream. These fridges tend to cool food fast for they require less start up time. When you plug in these devices to the power outlet, you can expect your food to cool in just a few minutes. It can be said that direct cool refrigerators are the better alternatives to frost free fridges. They can work in the same breath but not cost as much, either in price or in operation. Homeowners who are looking to buy a new refrigerator unit that don't have a huge budget to spare are the ones strongly advised to check out these units. Direct cool refrigerators can provide you with the highest value for your money.

The technology behind direct cool refrigerators is natural convection. It is the feature that allows for instant cooling, thereby working at more efficient levels. Although this refrigerator is of the primary choice for commercial and industrial establishments, it can definitely be used inside homes too. But while newer innovations tend to make the direct cool technology obsolete, refrigerators of this type are still widely used today.

Direct cool refrigerator may look just like any other fridges available in the market. They have the main body for keeping commonly cooled food items as well as a freezer normally located at the upper part of the unit. There is where meats and other frozen items are stored. The refrigerating and freezing chambers are found at the lower part. Those are the ones that make the device work in full functionality.

Direct cool refrigerators are most ideal in hot and humid places. The unique compressor used in these units work in such a way it provides superior cooling levels without making a huge dent in your monthly electricity bill. It is the refrigerator of choice for all people who are more concerned with savings than anything else. If you want to know of a better option for fridges, check out the units that offer direct cooling capabilities.

Sony rules out PS Vita price cut in 2012, works to lower the price later

PS Vita Japanese

It's time to get realistic about the prospects of a PlayStation Vita price drop. Sony Worldwide Studios' head Shuhei Yoshida dampened the fires of speculation at GamesCom this week by telling Eurogamer that it was simply "too early" to slash the price on the gaming handheld -- it was only just launched this year for every active region beyond Japan, after all. That's not to say Sony is determined to keep the PS Vita at $249 forever. Much like what it did for the PS3, the company is working to bring down the price by streamlining part costs. The cuts might be necessary given the mismatch between the warm reception to the quad-core, OLED-packing hardware and the actual sales; Sony would "like to see more uptake" than what's been seen to date, according to Yoshida. In the meantime, we'll have to be content with bundles like the European LittleBigPlanet combo if we want to eke out a little more value at the game store counter.

Global activists gear up for Pussy Riot rallies

MOSCOW (AP) ? The global campaign to free Pussy Riot is gaining speed: Supporters of the punk provocateur band mobilize this week in at least a dozen cities worldwide to hold simultaneous demonstrations an hour before a Russian court rules on whether its members will be sent to prison.

Friday's rallies will ride a wave of support for the three women who have been in jail for more than five months because of an anti-Putin prank in Moscow's main cathedral. Calls for them to be freed have come from a long list of celebrities such as Madonna and Bjork. Protests have been held in a number of Western capitals, including Berlin, where last week about 400 people joined Canadian electro-pop performance artist Peaches to support the band.

In one of the most extravagant displays, Reykjavik Mayor Jon Gnarr rode through the streets of the Icelandic capital in a Gay Pride parade this weekend dressed like a band member ? wearing a bright pink dress and matching balaclava ? while lip-synching to one of Pussy Riot's songs.

Amnesty International has called the women prisoners of conscience and begun collecting signatures by text message for a petition to be sent to the Russian government, while the U.S. State Department has repeatedly expressed its concern.

Although the band members and their lawyers are convinced that the verdict depends entirely on the will of President Vladimir Putin, and prosecutors have asked for a three-year sentence, activists hope their pressure will ease punishment or even free the women.

Putin has said the women should not be judged too harshly, but he risks appearing weak if they walk free.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich were little known before their brief impromptu performance in Christ the Savior Cathedral in February. Dancing and high-kicking, they shouted the words of a "punk prayer" asking the Virgin Mary to deliver Russia from Putin, who was set to win a third term in a March presidential election.

They were arrested on charges of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years. Since then, they have been vilified by the state media ? while winning over hearts abroad.

Madonna donned a balaclava during a concert in Moscow last week and had "Pussy Riot" written on her bare back. Yoko Ono sent a personal message to Samutsevich, saying that "the power of your every word is now growing in us."

A group of leading British musicians, including Pete Townshend of the Who and members of the Pet Shop Boys, published a letter in the Times of London ahead of Putin's visit during the Olympics to urge him to give the Pussy Riot members a fair hearing.

On Friday, activists in more than a dozen cities, from Moscow to Toronto, are expected to take to the streets at 2 p.m. Moscow time (1000 GMT), an hour before the judge is to issue the verdict. The protests are being coordinated by the defense lawyers.

Venues vary from the square outside the ornate Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona to the yard outside the Russian Embassy in London.

In Paris, the protest will be held on Stravinsky Square and led by 29-year-old Alexey Prokopyev from Russie-Libert?s, a Paris-based organization formed in December to bring together Russians studying or working in France.

"Most people go to these rallies in Paris because we cannot be in Russia at the moment for various reasons ? because of jobs, classes," said Prokopyev, who was born in the Soviet Union and has spent most of the past 17 years in France. "We all wish we were in Moscow now, but since we can't we do it in Paris."

Russie-Libert?s also is helping to organize rallies in Marseille, Nice, Lyons and Montpellier.

Wearing balaclavas, activists protested earlier this month on the iconic Alexander III bridge, named after the Russian czar who was France's ally in the 1890s.

Prokopyev said that he and his peers "want Russia to be a normal country" and be able to elect a president "who doesn't make the country where we were born a laughingstock."

In New York, Friday's protest will take place outside the Russian Consulate and later on Times Square.

"It's absurd that this case is being treated as criminal, while in any other civilized country that would be merely an administrative offense," said Xenia Grubstein, a 31-year-old journalist helping to organize the New York protest.

She said the hope was that the louder people speak out against the Pussy Riot case, the greater the chance that the verdict will be fair.

A protest is also planned in Washington, where last month punk rockers and arts activists rallied outside the Russian Embassy.

The U.S. State Department has expressed concern about what it called the "politically motivated prosecution of the Russian opposition and pressure on those who express dissenting views."

In France, Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti last week issued a statement expressing concern that artistic freedom was on trial.

A German cross-party group of lawmakers sent a letter to the Russian ambassador calling the five months the band members have spent in custody and the possible prison terms "draconian and disproportionate" punishment.

"In a secular and pluralistic state, peaceful artistic activities ? even if they may be seen as a provocation ? should not lead to accusations of a serious crime and long prison sentences," the lawmakers said in the letter, which more than 100 members of parliament signed.

The international press has been full of critical reports from the trial. One of Germany's most influential magazines, Der Spiegel, featured the band on its cover: a picture of Tolokonnikova behind bars and the headline "Putin's Russia."

Obama announces measures to soothe drought pain, attacks Ryan

CHICAGO (Reuters) - President Barack Obama announced an emergency purchase of up to $170 million of meat and fish on Monday on a campaign trip to drought-hit Iowa, and accused Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan of blocking disaster aid to farmers.

Obama named the Wisconsin congressman, the presumptive Republican nominee for vice president, as "one of those leaders of Congress standing in the way of the Farm Bill." The 2012 bill, which includes disaster aid programs, is stalled in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

"So if you happen to see congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities," Obama said in remarks to be delivered in Council Bluffs, on the Missouri River on the western edge of Iowa.

"It's time to put politics aside and pass it right away."

As the House Budget Committee chairman, Ryan has demanded large cuts in Farm Bill spending, including food stamps for the poor. He was also campaigning in Iowa on Monday, two days after being chosen to be Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's running mate for the November 6 election.

Ryan voted for a $383 million livestock disaster aid bill that the House passed on August 2 before a five-week recess. A Romney campaign spokesman said "no one will work harder to defend farmers and ranchers than the Romney-Ryan ticket."

U.S. farmers are suffering through their worst drought in a half a century as concern mounts that livestock producers can't afford the soaring cost of corn, a staple for feed.

Under the plan announced by Obama, the Agriculture Department will buy pork, lamb, chicken and catfish with money from an emergency fund for responses to natural disasters. The food will be sent to assistance programs, such as food banks.

Obama planned a three-day swing through Iowa, a battleground state the Democrat hopes to win in November. He planned to visit a farm in the No. 1 corn-producing state to witness the impact of the drought. The Iowa corn crop is forecast 25 percent smaller than 2011 due to the worst drought in half a century.

Swing states, including Iowa, Ohio, Florida, and Colorado, could hold the key to Obama's White House re-election bid.

The White House also is directing the Department of Defense to "encourage" its vendors to speed up purchases of lamb, pork and beef and freeze the food for later use.

"This is a win-win. Farmers and ranchers will have an opportunity to sell more of their products at this critical time and taxpayers will get a better price on food that would have been purchased later," a White House official said.

"The president has directed his administration to continue exploring every possible avenue to provide relief to communities struggling with this historic natural disaster."

INCUMBENT'S ADVANTAGE

Analyst Mark McMinimy of Guggenheim Partners noted the "incredibly fortuitous timing" of the announcement, which he said demonstrated the advantages that Obama has as an incumbent running for re-election. The money for the purchases will come from a fund reserved for helping farmers and ranchers hit by natural disaster.

Last week the governors of two poultry-growing states, Maryland and Delaware, asked the Obama administration for relief from the requirement to use corn ethanol in gasoline, saying the crop was needed to feed livestock.

The announcement of the purchases, a small amount compared to annual U.S. meat production, had little immediate impact on livestock prices in Chicago markets.

Livestock prices are expected to weaken as the higher cost of corn, soybeans and hay forces farmers and ranchers to send animals to slaughter sooner. On Friday, the government said high feed prices were expected to squeeze returns to producers.

So far this fiscal year, the Agriculture Department has spent $941 million to buy more than 1 billion lbs (453.6 million kg) of food, from apricots and beans to potatoes and walnuts along with meat, eggs and fish, for the school lunch and food donation programs.

Facebook Unveils First Non-Social Mobile Ad Unit, Allowing Developers To Buy Clicks To App Stores

Facebook mobile adsUntil now, every Facebook mobile ad had to be triggered by you or a friend's activity, but today Facebook begins testing a new non-social ad unit?that lets developers?buy mobile news feed ads that open Android and iOS App Store purchase pages when clicked. They're designed to help developers grow their business. The ads are cost per click, not cost per install-based, however Facebook tells me it hopes to let devs measure installs driven by their app ads in the future, and is now taking developer signups for the currently small private beta. By opening up the mobile news feed to traditional, non-social ads, Facebook may please its investors but will have to be very careful about how often these promotions appear to make sure they don't drown out organic content and cause us to stick our phones right back in our pockets.

Real Estate Market

It may often be the situation where people tend to struggle determining effective real estate marketing ideas, regardless if they?re a professional agent or a homeowner who?s trying to sell their home by themselves. Protruding from the rest of the crowd can be very important when it comes to the housing market in general, especially in today?s economy with all of the competition that?s typically found out there. Therefore, it?s important to think about first impressions, which are generally made and the types of advertising that the person chooses to make use of.

One important concept that many people surprisingly lose out on is ensuring their listing or any other forms of advertisement look as professional as possible. This generally means avoiding busy or distracting factors, whether not you?re dealing with the flyer, website, advertisement listing, brochure and so forth. The reason being if things become too distracting, it makes it tough for the person viewing it to focus on what you are trying to sell.

It is likewise important to make sure that things look professional for the very sake of making that first impression. This really is due to the fact that your form of advertisement represents both you and the property that you are trying to sell. If a website or listing transpires with look unprofessional, then individuals are prone to proceed to another thing or they may assume that it?s a scam.

If you happen to be placing a listing up, regardless if it?s online or not, providing quality pictures can be vital that you also gain a good impression. This is due to the proven fact that many people are visual and somewhat reclusive. Due to this, listings without pictures can sometimes put people off, given that they may think that they will automatically need to contact the person to find out if they?re even interested in the area to begin with, which might mean their time is going to be wasted.

If you?re trying to sell a location that may need a lot of work, it?s still vital that you make sure that you take pictures, but you can also take ones that demonstrate the property in a better light. Therefore, try to take several pictures both inside and outside of the home, all while trying to appeal to those who may want a residence or property that they will have to fix up a little.

One common mistake that lots of sellers are in the habit of smoking of making, would involve taking pictures of a house that is looking for a little TLC plus some heavy-duty cleaning. Again, it?s important to make certain that are no distractions, and seeing a room that?s cluttered, messy, or even dirty may also be something that puts off buyers. This could either make sure they are believe the area isn?t sanitary or might entail more work than they?re prepared to put into it.

It?s also important to make sure you take pictures of the room itself and not objects there alone such as the bed, table and so forth. Above all, you may also want to make certain your listing is also worded properly and in detail, making sure to explain exactly what the house are property provides; otherwise, the customer may go through that you are trying to hide something or the place is undesirable.

Ultimately, sometimes great real estate marketing ideas can boil right down to using common sense as well as thinking from the buyer?s perspective. However, there are also services that specialize in this area, a few of which might be able to help increase your selling efforts are ensure you are on the right track.

Former NFL cheerleader denies she is the 'female Sandusky'

A former Bengals cheerleader accused of sex abuse is firing back at her at her critics and the rumors about her personal life despite a request by prosecutors for a gag order in the case.

Sarah Jones, one-time captain of the Cincinnati Ben-Gals cheerleading squad and a former high school teacher in Kenton County, Ky., is accused of sexually abusing a student and unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual activities.

"I read on a blog that I was the female [Jerry] Sandusky. To read those things and not be able to comment, not be able to stick up for myself is not fair," said Sarah Jones in an exclusive interview with ABC News.

"People don't know the real me. There's blogs and postings out there that I have slept with numerous people. I married my high school sweetheart," said Jones. "I just asked the general public to maybe hold their judgment a little bit longer until the truth comes out."

Prosecutors asked a judge for a gag order on Monday to stop Jones from talking after she went on her lawyer's radio show earlier this month to comment on the charges against her. Jones' lawyer, Eric Deters, filed a motion to dismiss all charges because of a lack of evidence.

"They have no evidence that sexual relations of any type took place in any of the 50 United States of America," Deters told ABC News station WCPO.

The judge said she would review the motions and make a decision in the coming days.

"We won't be sending out motions, we won't be going on radio shows. You will be hearing our arguments about the evidence in court," said Leland Hulbert, spokesman for the Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, which is prosecuting the case.

Last November, the then 26-year-old teacher at Dixie Heights High School, was accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student. Jones' mother, Cheryl Jones ? a middle school principal in the same school district -- is accused of tampering with evidence in connection with her daughter's case. Sarah Jones resigned from her position in November 2011.

Both mother and daughter pleaded not guilty in April at their arraignment. Both Sarah and Cheryl Jones were joined by dozens of supporters including the family of the alleged victim. The victim's name has not been released due to his age.

"The hardest thing has been having not only me go through it, but to have my mom go through it with me," said Sarah Jones. "It's almost kind of a guilty feeling that she is even involved in this because what has happened to her is not fair. My goal is for her charges to be dismissed."

Jones' lawyer is also demanding the prosecution be sanctioned for saying in court that Jones allegedly sent a text to the victim saying "deny everything." The prosecution described other texts with the victim as "steamy."

"I think people are taking this whole student-teacher thing? Yes, he was a student but he was not my student," said Jones. "He was a family friend and I am very close to his parents. Had it not been for their support it would be very difficult to get through this without them."

Brew-curious? Text for info on the beer you're drinking

15 hrs.

Sitting at the bar sipping a microbrew is often an occasion to ask your friend or bartender about the beer or brewery. Is it local? Is it imported? What's the alcohol content? And can I have another? But if the barkeep is busy and your friends are clueless, you can text the beer's name to this number?and get a comprehensive profile fired right back.

BeerText.Us is a simple service put together by a pair of students?just last weekend, for a hackathon in Syracuse. It uses the?Twilio service to handle the texting and gets all its information from BreweryDB, which lets apps access its database for just this kind of purpose.

How does it work? You text 315-679-4711 with the name of the beer, and within a minute or two you should receive a fairly detailed description, including (if the database has it available) data on where and how it's brewed, the type of hops, and so on. That's it ? no sign-up process, no charge, just beer stats.

Be careful, though: some beers have rather excessive descriptions, and while your average microbrew might send you two or three messages to get you all the info, some will send far more. One commenter received forty after requesting information on a beer called Jack D'Or.

Things were a little shaky yesterday when the service made a slightly larger?debut than the developers expected, but now it seems to be performing well, and has some new features: Numbered texts, and a delay between them to ensure they arrive in the correct order.

Justin Bieber's 'As Long As You Love Me' Video: Growing Up Is Hard To Do

Bieber dives headlong into adulthood — and takes a beating from Michael Madsen — in his brand-new video.
By James Montgomery

<P>When Justin Bieber dropped his <a href="/news/articles/1684446/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video.jhtml">"Boyfriend"</a> video back in May, he made one thing very clear: He's all grown up.</P><P>Yes, with its cool cars, hot clothes and even hotter women, "Boyfriend" was <i>precisely</i> the kind of video a newly minted 18-year-old would make, had they the means (and the relationship with <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2010/09/24/lil-x-director-x/">Director X</a>). It was a supercharged, supremely budgeted <i>man's</i> fantasy, and, much like manhood itself, there was nothing subtle about it.</P><P><object width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="embeddedPlayer" data="http://videoplayer.vevo.com/embed/embedded" style="visibility: visible;"><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="flashvars" value="playerType=embedded&videoId=USUV71201064&playlist=false&enableDomScan=true&siteSection=MTV_mtv.com&playerId=62FF0A5C-0D9E-4AC1-AF04-1D9E97EE3961&autoplay=0&endScreen=play&cc=US&cultureName=en-US&cultureIsRTL=False&sbId=14A00605-7DB5-4492-B67B-CB2093BD89DD"></object></P><P>And while the same can be said about his brand-new "As Long as You Love Me" clip &#8212; it's about a subtle as a hammer to the head &#8212; that's where the similarities between the two videos end. Director Anthony Mandler tones down the excess in favor of a genuine grittiness, and, in the process, makes "Boyfriend" look like child's play. If that clip was a fantasy ride, well, then "ALAYLM" is a reality trip. Adulthood isn't <i>all</i> fun and games, after all.</P><P>Part tragic love story, part pulpy thriller, the new vid finds Bieber flexing his acting muscles opposite Michael Madsen &#8212; that'll put hair on his chest &#8212; who plays an overprotective father/probable career criminal with a penchant for gaudy fashion (which is to say, the same kind of role he's been playing for 20 years now). Biebs has only the noblest of intentions for his daughter, but Madsen refuses to give their relationship his approval &#8212; a point he drives home when he advises JB to "hit the road."</P><P>Of course, given that this is a tragedy, Bieber doesn't listen, and, in-between some scenes of the young couple exploring the limits of their love &#8212; definitely his most adult to date &#8212; we learn that JB plans on rescuing his girlfriend from the grips of her father, via a late-night train station rendezvous. As you might expect, this doesn't sit particularly well with Madsen, who confronts Bieber and dishes out a savage beating (though at least he doesn't <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLTqecGbdCc" target="_blank">cut his ear off</a>) while his daughter looks on in horror.</P><P>And while you'd think all that violence would be enough to further cement his love interest's desire to flee, sadly, she leaves Bieber standing at the train station, and at clip's end, he is heartbroken ... and alone. For the first time, Bieber <i>doesn't</i> get the girl, and the message seems to be clear: Being a grown-up ain't all it's cracked up to be.</P><P>In a lot of ways, "As Long as You Love Me" is probably a risk for Bieber; he dares to dirty up his image and isn't afraid to take a beating. Those scenes of violence are are particularly vivid, as are the subsequent performance shots where Bieber belts out the tune with blood dripping from his face. It's a credit to his newfound maturity that he'd trust Mandler's vision and allow the "ALAYLM" video to go to such great lengths. This is in no way a <i>fun</i> clip, but, then again, adulthood isn't supposed to be fun. Bieber seems to have figured that out, and, in doing so, he's only further separated himself from his tween-pop forefathers. They'd never go to the lengths or the depths he does here, mostly because they were probably afraid to grow up. It's clear Bieber isn't.</P><P><i>What do you think of Bieber's grown-up video for "As Long as You Love Me"? Leave your comment below!</i></p>
